MINUTES
1. Call to Order by Louis Eifert at 5:33 pm.
2. Roll Call: Louis Eifert, Melissa Helgesen and Mylinda Heil
Also present: Verona Police Chief Dave Dresser and Verona Fire Chief Dan Machotka
3. Approval of Minutes: Moved by Eifert, seconded by Helgesen to approve the September 21, 2023,
minutes of the Verona Police and Fire Commission.
Motion Carried: 3-0.
4. Moved by Eifert, seconded by Heil to authorize the Police Chief to conduct a recruitment process for
the position of Police Sergeant, filling an existing vacant position.
Motion Carried: 3-0.
5. Moved by Heil, seconded by Eifert to authorize the Police Chief to conduct a recruitment process for
the position of Police Lieutenant – with an emphasis on investigations and emergency preparedness.
This is a newly authorized position for 2024.
Motion Carried: 3-0.
6. Moved by Eifert, seconded by Heil to convene into closed session pursuant to Sec. 19.85(1) (c) and (e),
WI State Statue, for the following purposes:
a. Update from Police Chief Dresser on the existing recruitment process and interview four police applicants
b. Update from Fire Chief Dan Machotka on the existing recruitment process and interview six fire applicants
Motion Carried: 3-0. Police Chief Dresser and Fire Chief Machotka were invited to remain in closed
session. Dresser @ 5:45 p.m. and Machotka @ 7:45 p.m.
Motion Carried: 3-0.
7. Moved by Heil, seconded by Eifert to return to open session for discussion and possible action
regarding the closed session.
Motion Carried: 3-0.
8. Moved by Helgesen, seconded by Eifert to certify police candidates 101, 104, 105, & 106 for further
consideration for the position of Police Officer, certify candidates 2756956, 18350675, 26052859, &
42072390 for the position of Fire Lieutenant, and certify candidates 26052859, 39858228, & 42072390
for the position of Apparatus Engineer.
9. Adjournment: Moved by Eifert, seconded by Heil to adjourn at 9:37 p.m.

a. Interview candidates for the position of police officer
b. Interview candidates for the position of fire apparatus engineer / inspector / lieutenant
7. Return to open session for discussion and possible action regarding closed session.
8. Adjournment.
