3. Approval of Minutes of the October 29, 2013 Public Safety Ad Hoc Committee
Motion by Reekie, seconded by Hochkammer, to approve the minutes of October 29, 2014
meeting. Motion carried 7-0.
4. Update on the Schematic Design Process for a Fire and EMS Station
Steve Gausman presented a revised schematic design and preliminary elevation for a 41,000
square foot Fire and EMS facility. Mr. Gausman stated that there are some items that can be
modified which would get the size below 40,000 square feet and possibly to 38,000. Mr.
Burns explained that at this point, the focus has been on designing the most efficient layout
to meet the needs and wants of the Fire and EMS Departments. The City has hired Tri-
North Builders as a Construction Manager and they will be working on developing cost
estimates based on the preliminary designs. Mr. Gausman reported that Tri-North is
anticipating construction costs of $175 to $225 per square foot depending on the type of
construction.
5. Project Timeline and Construction Issues Including Cost Estimates, Building Materials, and
LEED Certification
Committee Member discussed different construction methods including pre-cast and
masonry construction. Other items discussed were the intern dorm areas, records storage/IT
area, potential for a basement, and efficient mechanical systems. It was agreed that the next
step is to look at cost estimates and then review priorities for what to include in the design.
The Committee Members also agreed by consensus to pursue a LEED self-performing
design, but not to seek formal certification.
6. Adjournment: Motion by Wickstrom, seconded by Reekie, to adjourn the meeting at 7:00
p.m. Motion carried 7-0.
Respectfully submitted,
Bill Burns, City Administrator
