CITY OF VERONA MINUTES PUBLIC SAFETY AD HOC COMMITTEE TASK FORCE MEETING DECEMBER 3, 2013 VERONA CITY HALL 111 LINCOLN STREET 1. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hochkammer at 5:32 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Mayor Jon Hochkammer, Chief Joe Giver, Chief Brian Myrland, Mike Goetz, Heather Reekie, Diane Smith, John Wickstrom. Absent (excused): Chief Bernie Coughlin, Scott Manley, Mac McGilvray, Delora Newton, Joleen Semmann. Others Present: Steve Gausman, Five Bugles Design; Bill Pennoyer, Tri-North Builders; Bill Burns, City Administrator. 3. Approval of Minutes of the October 29, 2013 Public Safety Ad Hoc Committee Motion by Reekie, seconded by Hochkammer, to approve the minutes of October 29, 2014 meeting. Motion carried 7-0. 4. Update on the Schematic Design Process for a Fire and EMS Station Steve Gausman presented a revised schematic design and preliminary elevation for a 41,000 square foot Fire and EMS facility. Mr. Gausman stated that there are some items that can be modified which would get the size below 40,000 square feet and possibly to 38,000. Mr. Burns explained that at this point, the focus has been on designing the most efficient layout to meet the needs and wants of the Fire and EMS Departments. The City has hired Tri- North Builders as a Construction Manager and they will be working on developing cost estimates based on the preliminary designs. Mr. Gausman reported that Tri-North is anticipating construction costs of $175 to $225 per square foot depending on the type of construction. 5. Project Timeline and Construction Issues Including Cost Estimates, Building Materials, and LEED Certification Committee Member discussed different construction methods including pre-cast and masonry construction. Other items discussed were the intern dorm areas, records storage/IT area, potential for a basement, and efficient mechanical systems. It was agreed that the next step is to look at cost estimates and then review priorities for what to include in the design. The Committee Members also agreed by consensus to pursue a LEED self-performing design, but not to seek formal certification. 6. Adjournment: Motion by Wickstrom, seconded by Reekie, to adjourn the meeting at 7:00 p.m. Motion carried 7-0. Respectfully submitted, Bill Burns, City Administrator
