PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE
MAY 14, 2012
VERONA CITY HALL
MINUTES
1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Scott Manley at 5:33 p.m.
2. Roll Call: Members Present: Jeremy Charles, Scott Manley, and Evan Touchett.
Others Present: Bernie Coughlin, Police Chief; Bill Burns, City Administrator;
and Kami Lynch, City Clerk.
3. Approval of Minutes. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Charles to approve
the minutes of the April 23, 2012 meeting. Motion carried 3/0.
4. Discussion and possible action regarding an application for a
Parade/Run/Walk Permit for the Hometown Days Parade from Brad Zaugg of
BRAVA Enterprises, LLC to be held on Sunday, June 10, 2012. Motion by
Touchett, seconded by Charles to approve the Parade Permit and the Parade
Route that has been used in prior years. Motion carried 3/0.
5. Discussion and possible action regarding an application for a
Parade/Run/Walk Permit from Park Bank to hold a pre-parade performance
on the rooftop of Park Bank prior to the Hometown Days Parade on Sunday,
June 10, 2012. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Charles to approve the
permit for a pre-parade performance at Park Bank. Motion Carried 3/0.
6. Discussion and possible action regarding the intersection of Enterprise Drive
and Cross Country Road. The committee discussed the options of using
different signs and lighting to get the attention of drivers and signify the stop
sign ahead. Upon receiving more information on cost and timing from the
Director of Public Works the Committee will revisit the item as necessary.
7. Discussion and possible action regarding an application for a Liquor License
Premise Amendment for Tuvalu Coffeehouse and Gallery located at 300 S
Main St. to include the request to serve alcohol on the front porch (Michelle
Kubly, Agent). The Committee discussed the requested amendment with
concerns relating to the main entrance to the establishment being shared with
the requested premise (the porch). Additionally, the premise is not an
enclosed space which has been required by many licensed establishments in
the City of Verona. The Committee gave the applicant an opportunity to revise
the amendment by enclosing the porch and using the other door to the
establishment as the main entrance but did not grant approval of the
requested Liquor License Premise Amendment.
8. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Charles to adjourn the meeting at 6:02 p.m.
Motion carried 3/0.
Kami Lynch, City Clerk
