3. Approval of Minutes. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Touchett to approve
the minutes from the August 25, 2014 meeting. Motion carried 3/0.
4. Discussion and possible action regarding an application for a Special Event
Permit for the Homecoming Parade to be held on Friday, September 26, 2014
from Rita Mortenson of the Verona Area High School. Chief Coughlin
provided information on the event stating that as many as three police officers
will assist with the event and traffic control. The Police School Liaison Officer
assists with coordinating the event. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie
to recommend that the Common Council approve the Special Event. Motion
carried 3/0.
5. Discussion and possible action regarding the bicycle and pedestrian crossing
on the 300 block of South Main Street. Ald. Yurs explained that this was
discussed at a recent Committee of the Whole meeting but wanted to bring it
to this committee to discuss if improvements could occur sooner than
originally discussed, which was with the street improvements in 2015. Chief
Coughlin provided information on the costs of these improvements and how
the costs relate to the timing of improvements. The committee agreed that it
would be best to wait to make improvements to the crossing when the
streetscape improvements are done in early 2015. No action was taken on the
item.
6. Discussion and possible action regarding private streets. Chief Coughlin
explained that staff had further discussions regarding private streets. The
committee discussed making adjustments to the City’s current ordinance to
address private streets and directed staff to proceed with updating the
ordinance.
