CITY OF VERONA PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 22, 2014 VERONA CITY HALL MINUTES 1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Yurs at 6:04 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Members Present: Heather Reekie, Evan Touchett and Dale Yurs. Others Present: Bernie Coughlin, Police Chief; Jon Hochkammer, Mayor; Mac McGilvray and Liz Doyle, Alderpersons District 1; and Kami Scofield, City Clerk. 3. Approval of Minutes. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie to approve the minutes from the August 25, 2014 meeting. Motion carried 3/0. 4. Discussion and possible action regarding Chief’s recommended Denial of an Operator License for Vance Zehner. Chief Coughlin provided the reasons for denial including: failure to disclose information relating to convictions on the application, the applicant is a habitual law offender, and the applicant has a felony conviction. Mr. Zehner was present to ask that the committee reconsider the Chief’s decision as he has not had any recent convictions and he intends to keep it that way. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie to recommend that the Common Council uphold the Chief’s decision deny the operator license. Motion carried 3/0. 5. Adjournment.
