CITY OF VERONA PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE JUNE 8, 2015 VERONA CITY HALL MINUTES 1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Dale Yurs at 5:35 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Members Present: Dale Yurs and Heather Reekie. Evan Touchett was absent and excused. Others Present: Bernie Coughlin, Police Chief; and Kami Scofield, City Clerk. 3. Approval of Minutes. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Yurs to approve the minutes from the May 26, 2015 meeting. Motion carried 2/0. 4. Discussion and possible action regarding a Special Event Permit for the Bike for Boys & Girls Bicycle Ride on Saturday, July 18th from Janine Stephens of the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County. Chief Coughlin stated that most of the riders should pass through Verona between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. One officer will be on staff at the intersection of CTH M/South Main Street and Whalen Rd to stop traffic if necessary. This event has been happening in Verona for a few years and has caused few problems. The event has grown in the number of participants and that is why this year there will be an officer staffing the one intersection of the Verona route. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Yurs to approve the Special Event Permit for the Bike for Boys & Girls Club Bicycle Ride. Motion carried 2/0. 5. Discussion and possible action regarding Liquor License Renewals for the 2015‐2016 License Period. Motion by Yurs, seconded by Reekie to recommend that the Common Council approve the Liquor License renewals as listed, with the exception of The Heights; in which the Committee takes no action on at this time. The Motion on the approved renewals should also include the contingency that the Police Chief complete and approve the background checks for the applicants. Motion carried 2/0. 6. Discussion and possible action regarding Cigarette/Tobacco License Renewals for the 2015‐2016 License Period. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Yurs to recommend approval of the Cigarette/Tobacco Licenses renewals. The Motion carried. 2/0. 7. Adjournment.
