CITY OF VERONA PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2015 at 5:30 P.M. VERONA CITY CENTER MINUTES 1. Call to Order. The meeting was called to order by Chair, Dale Yurs at 5:32 p.m. 2. Roll Call. Evan Touchett and Dale Yurs. Alderperson Reekie was absent and excused. 3. Approval of the minutes of the August 24, 2015 meeting of the Public Safety and Welfare Committee. Motion by Yurs, seconded by Touchett to approve the minutes from August 24, 2015. Motion Carried 2/0. 4. Discussion and possible action regarding an application for a Special Event Permit for the 2015 Homecoming Parade to be held Friday, October 9th from Rita Mortensen of the Verona Area High School. There are no changes to the route from previous years. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Yurs to approve the Homecoming Parade Event. Motion carried 2/0. 5. Discussion and possible action regarding an application for a Special Event Permit for the Jingle Bell Run/Walk to be held on Saturday, December 12th from Hana Johnson of the Arthritis Foundation. This is the second year of this event and improvements in notification will be made to those along the route for this year’s event. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Yurs to approve the Jingle Bell Run/Walk with contingency that the City Clerk receives an update Certificate of Insurance naming the City of Verona. Motion Carried 2/0. 6. Discussion and possible action regarding an application for a Special Event Permit for the Sugar Creek Fun Run on Saturday, October 10th from Russ Larson of Skylus Sport, LLC. This is a new event to the City and will serve as a fundraiser for the Sugar Creek PTO. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Yurs to approve the Sugar Creek Fun Run contingent that any route changes be approved by the Police Department. Motion carried 2/0. 7. Discussion regarding private streets. City Attorney, Bryan Kleinmaier stated that the Council currently has the authority to deny private streets. Alderperson Yurs thinks it’s important that there is a clear statement in our ordinances regarding private streets and directs legal counsel to prepare an ordinance addressing private streets for the Committee to review at their next meeting. 8.
