CITY OF VERONA MINUTES PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE January 24, 2022 Verona City Hall 1. Call to order: Heather Reekie called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Heather Reekie, Phil Hoechst, and Evan Touchett were present. Also present: City Clerk Holly Licht, Police Chief Bernie Coughlin, Sergeant Christiansen. 3. Public Comments 4. Approval of Minutes from the December 13, 2021 Public Safety and Welfare Committee meeting. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Hoechst to approve the minutes from the December 13, 2021 Public Safety and Welfare Committee meeting. Motion carried 3-0. 5. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Temporary Class “B” Fermented Malt Beverage and “Class B” Wine license applications from the Verona Area Community Theater, 103 Lincoln Street, for February 10-12 and 17-19, 2022; and May 13-15, 2022 – Dee Baldock, Agent Motion by Touchett, seconded by Hoechst to recommend that the council approve a Temporary Class “B” Fermented Malt Beverage and “Class B” Wine license applications from the Verona Area Community Theater, 103 Lincoln Street, for February 10-12 and 17-19, 2022; and May 13-15, 2022 – Dee Baldock, Agent. Motion carried 3-0. 6. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit application from Bill Martin for the SBR Endurance Performance Winter Wonderland Triathlon on Sunday, February 13, 2022 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Motion by Touchett to approve a Special Event Permit application from Bill Martin for the SBR Endurance Performance Winter Wonderland Triathlon on Sunday, February 13, 2022 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., contingent upon completion of the background check. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Hoechst to approve the minutes from the November 8, 2021 Public Safety and Welfare Committee meeting. Motion carried 3-0. 5. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A change of agent request from Kwik Trip, Inc. d/b/a Kwik Trip #837, located at 400 E. Verona Ave. Kwik Trip #837 has requested a change of agent from Tracy Alvey to Melissa Williamson. A background check has been completed and there are no issues. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Hoechst to recommend that council approve a change of agent request from Kwik Trip, Inc. d/b/a Kwik Trip #837, located at 400 E. Verona Ave. Motion carried 3-0. 6. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Ordinance No. 21-994 Amending Section 10-1-13 of the Code of Ordinances related to stop signs This ordinance is a request from Public Works to add stop signs as the development enters new phases of construction. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Hoechst to recommend that council approve Ordinance No. 21-994 Amending Section 10-1-13 of the Code of Ordinances related to stop signs. Motion carried 3-0. 7. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Ordinance No. 21-995 Amending Section 10-1-26 of the Code of Ordinances relating to parking prohibited during certain periods This ordinance limits parking near Country View Elementary on Tamarack Way. Parents are parking here to pick up children after school which is limiting the field of vision for other drivers/pedestrians making it unsafe. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Hoechst to recommend that council approve Ordinance No. 21-995 Amending Section 10-1-26 of the Code of Ordinances relating to parking prohibited during certain periods.
