BOROUGH OF WALDWICK BOARD OF HEALTH REGULAR MEETING MINUTES Thursday, October 17, 2024 The Board of Health Meeting for the Borough of Waldwick was held at Borough Hall. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM by K. Hillringhouse, BOH President. The Opening Statement was read according to the Sunshine Law and was followed by Roll Call: PRESENT: K. Hillringhouse D. Palladino D. Guy G. Hazley R. Rose ABSENT: J. Martinello, K. Tone, M. Giordano, A. Larro, A. Paradiso PROFESSIONALS PRESENT: C. Woodward, Administrative Assistant APPROVAL OF MINUTES K. Hillringhouse asked for an approval of minutes from the July 18, 2024 meeting. R. Rose made a motion to accept minutes, which was seconded by D. Guy. ACTIVITY REPORT C. Woodward reviewed the July - September Activity reports. Please refer to reports for specific data. Highlights included: • Yearly audits of Preschool, Elementary, Middle, and High School student immunizations records completed. • As of September, COVID 19 test positivity is 12.9%, down from 14.3 (past 2 weeks). • Wastewater viral activity level for COVID-19 is currently low. • As of September, there were twenty human cases of West Nile Virus (WNV), including three deaths and four presumptive viremic donors (PVD’s). Total of 925 WNV positive pools as of September. • At the local level there are currently no outbreaks in long term care facilities or assisted living facilities in the community. • Communicable disease investigations included one case of Anaplasmosis, one case of Vibrio, one case of Perinatal Hep B. All cases investigated and closed. • Five new travel-associated dengue cases were reports in August, for a total of 68 cases in 2024 compared to 40 cases in same timeframe in 2023. 1 • Adult Health Clinic services provided by appointment. • Child Health Clinic scheduled for every third Wednesday of the month at 22 Whites Lane. Five children were seen during between July and September. Two physicals and seventeen immunizations were given to Waldwick children. • Flu Clinic was held at Tamaron on September 23rd with 24 high dose vaccines administered. An additional clinic was held at the Waldwick Health Clinic where 6 high dose vaccines were administered. There was a COVID 19 clinic offered at Waldwick Health Clinic in October, where 22 residents were seen. • Continued distribution of COVID-19 home test and Narcan. • Consumer and Environmental Reports from July - September: o 1 Plan Review for Sizzling Grill A&M o 33 Retail Food Establishment Inspections completed o 1 Temporary Retail Food Establishment Inspection completed o 12 Complaint Investigations  Complaint investigation dispositions were reviewed o 2 Public Recreational Bathing Facilities o 2 Youth Camp inspections o 3 OPRA requests completed o 2 Septic Abandonments approved o 5 Animal bites investigated • Violation Hearing, Giants Farmers Market, 7/30/2024 • Emergency response, Boston Market, 8/8/2024 – Smoke discharge from light fixtures, smoke present in food prep area. All food in subject area discarded and establishment was closed. Upon follow up, smoke smell dissipated and fixtures were replaced. Approved to re-open. As of date of meeting Boston Market has been closed permanently. • Vital Statistics: o 13 Marriage License applications o 17 Marriage Certificates o 2 Amendment o 2 Death Certificates • Online Food handler vouchers were purchased and are available from State Food Safety Training. • Numerous Health Education Outreach programs including: o Community Spotlight sent out for July, August and September. o Presentations and programs held including:  Germs, Germs, Germs program held at the Waldwick Library on 8/5/2024  Hoarding to Healing: The Legal Perspective @ Hillsdale Library on 9/11/2024 o Eblast sent including:  Extreme Heat Safety  Is Your Emergency Info Up-to Date?  Whooping Cough Cases Increasing Across the United States  Be Prepared for Emergencies • Health Education calendar was presented and upcoming health education events are now listed on our website. 2 C. Woodward asked if any of the members were available to work the rabies clinic which is scheduled for November 7th, 6-7:30 at the DPW Garage. K. Hillringhouse will be present and other board members will be contacted to see if they are available. Board members recommended having the rabies clinic at the park rather than the DPW. Would like to recommend having it at the park in the future. Will follow up for 2025. C. Woodward inquired about meeting dates for 2025. Four meetings were held this year instead of five as its been in the past. We did not have a quorum. Will vote at next meeting on 1/16/2025. With no further questions a motion to adjourn was made at 7:55 by R. Rose and seconded D. Guy. The next regular Board of Health meeting is scheduled for January 16, 2025 at 7:30 pm.
