PROCLAMATIONS & PRESENTATIONS
Mayor Giordano read the proclamation for May as Mental Health Awareness Month.
Mayor Giordano comments that tonight is Patrick’s last meeting as our Administrator. His last day will be
Friday. Three years ago, you came to Waldwick to be our Administrator. In this short period of time,
Patrick has been involved in many projects in Waldwick. He had the foresight to move our Borough
forward in many ways we never thought of. One of his projects which came out beautiful and is a
testament to him, was to purchase some of the property from M&T Bank to expand our Parking. He was
a good listener to our department heads, employees and especially to our residents. He always reviewed
a request and gave an honest reason why it should be done or not. I will miss our meetings we had every
week and editing my messages I send out to the community.
Thank you for all you have done for Waldwick, our residents and myself. You came into our lives at the
right time, it was an amazing experience. Your commitment, dedication and passion for your work we will
never forget. At the end of Friday’s work day, you will no longer be our Administrator, but you will always
be our friend. May you have continued success and happiness in your new position as Administrator of
your home town Maplewood.
Mayor Giordano read a proclamation for Patrick Wherry.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Mrs. Sherman reported that the Beautification Committee has been working hard cutting the daffodils. A
meeting is coming up to discuss Earth Day and better plan for this event. They are also getting ready to
plant vinca and trees at Borough Park with the Lions Club. At their meeting, they will discuss gardening
at the municipal building by the flagpole and once those plans are finalized, it will be sent to the Mayor
and Kelley.
Mr. Schatz asked the Council from the Environmental Committee if they would consider odd/even
watering in the Borough during the summer months. The Council Members present were not interested
in odd/even watering at this time. Mrs. Weber commented that she thought the Environmental
Committee was going to educate residents on the benefits of odd/even watering.
NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Wherry commented that MaryBeth Nappi requested that the WEF Townwide Garage Sale be
extended to Sunday, April 30 for those that were unable to sell last Sunday due to the rain. Council
Members present agreed to this Sunday but if it rains that will be it.
Mrs. Sherman commented on the life of Shirly Andre who passed away on April 18 at the age of 94. She
was the welfare clerk for the Borough for a number of year and was named Citizen of the Year in 1984 for
all her work. Shirley was involved in the Waldwick Women’s Club, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion

in Waldwick since 1956 and their home was just recently sold.
Mrs. Sherman commented that she is extremely sad that Patrick is leaving but forever grateful for the
support these past two years he has shown me. You were always willing to teach me the ropes, willing to
offer advice, willing to listen and open to my ideas even the crazy ones, and always willing to take my
telephone calls. It was obvious how much he cared about Waldwick and he put his all into his position.
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES: 6 APRIL 25, 2023
He took initiative to develop undeveloped park areas. He made a difference in this town. I will miss his
kindness, smile and friendship. I am grateful for what you did for her and the Beautification Committee
On behalf of herself, her family and residents we are sad to see you go and hope that Maplewood knows
how lucky they area to get you. Thank you.
Mr. Schatz commented on Mental Health Awareness Month and that we have The Forum School and
ECLC.
Mr. Ritchie commented that he really appreciated working with Patrick and that he is a true master of his
trade. You have an answer for everything and if you do not, you say it and then find the answer. We will
miss having you here and our loss in Maplewood’s gain.
Mrs. Weber commented that she appreciates how smart you are, how diplomatic you are, always smiling.
Thank you.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Mayor Giordano asked if any member of the public wished to come forward and to discuss anything and
if so, please state your name for the record.
Al Coldon spoke to the issue of Patrick leaving and what a fantastic job he did here in Waldwick. Mr.
Coldon will see him at his summer lake house. Thank you for what you did for the town.
Eric LaPorta spoke to the issue of Waldwick having the first student All American scholar athlete and would
like to see if the Mayor and Council would recognize him.
Mr. LaPorta spoke to the issue of the double yellow line on Wyckoff Avenue/Franklin Turnpike making the
left-hand turn into the sewer authority. Also, the double yellow by the car wash on Franklin Turnpike
where cars are parked to get in on the street which is against the approvals received from the Planning
Board. This forces cars to cross the double yellow to get by. It is dangerous. The Police Department
should patrol this.
Mr. LaPorta asked about the track at the high school. Council Members responded that the Borough is
responsible for the maintenance of the track but it is owned by the Board of Education.
Mr. LaPorta read comments by Mrs. Hascup to Patrick. “Sorry to see you leave Waldwick. The
professionalism and knowledge you showed and shared in this position was second to none. You were
the best thing that happened to Waldwick. You leave shoes that will be hard to fill. I wish you much luck
and success in your future endeavors. Thank you for all you did for Waldwick.”
Ted Sanzo spoke to the issue of his water filter which was disgusting. Mr. Sanzo spoke to the issue of his
brother in Arizona receiving a nine-page water report and asked why we only receive a four-page water
report. He believes the town should inform the residents of all contaminants.
Mr. Sanzo commented that Hawthorne is suing for the water, when will Waldwick do the same?
Mr. Sanzo wished Mr. Wherry well and admires his brown shoes all the time.
Mr. Wherry extended his thanks to the Mayor and Council and fortunate to have the position and
fortunate every day he worked here. Thank you to department heads, incredibly competent professionals
who made my job easier. Thank you to our residents who were always forthcoming with criticism and
