Traffic Safety
Discussion Items
1. Walker Ave Speed Limit Signs: Amy Hall, 363 Greenridge, has asked
why there are “Strictly Enforced” plaques under the 35 mph speed limit
signs on Walker Ave, between Waldorf and the south City Limit? Ms.
Hall has observed vehicles speeding along this stretch of road and
believes that most of the speeding vehicles are Bissell employees.
2. Hall Speeding: Scott Jonkhoff, 3939 Hall, is concerned about speeding
on Hall, between Wilson and Butterworth. According to Mr. Jonkhoff, a
25-mph speed limit sign is currently posted on eastbound Hall near
Kinney. He has requested that an additional 25 mph speed limit signs
be installed on westbound Hall at Butterworth. He has also asked that
25 mph speed limit signs be installed for both northbound and
southbound traffic on the north/south stretch of Hall. Mr. Jonkhoff
recently observed a drag race occurring on this stretch of Hall.
3. Bristol Sight Distance: Ken Rogers, 3431 Bristol, is concerned about
the sight distance between his driveway and traffic headed northbound
on Bristol. He recently experienced excessive road rage from a
northbound Bristol driver after he backed-out of his driveway onto
Bristol to also head northbound. Mr. Rogers also shared incidents of
his daughter being rear-ended while waiting to turn into his driveway,
and his daughter running off the road to avoid being rear-ended again
just a few months later.
4. Nolview Street Parking: Michael Prenger, 2180 Nolview, is concerned
about excessive parking that is occurring on both sides of Nolview.

According to Mr. Prenger, the congested parking has caused trash
service to be denied and snow removal operations to be prevented a
few times.
5. Waterford Village No Parking Signs: The DPW has requested that “No
Parking” signs be installed on the east side of Waterford Village, after
the road narrows north of the future Savannah drive. There is concern
that the narrower residential cross-section will not allow for two-way
traffic with parking permitted on both sides of the street.
6. Millennium Park No Parking Signs: The Sign Shop is creating an
inventory of all City-owned signs. An excess of “No Parking” signs
were noted on streets near Millenium Park. With increased designated
parking areas now provided, discussion will occur on whether the
number of “No Parking” signs should be reduced.
7. Cluster Mailboxes: The United States Postal Service has recently
updated their standards to require cluster mailbox unit for all new
residential, commercial, and industrial developments. Discussion will
occur on how City staff should work with developers to review the
placement of these cluster mailbox units, prior to the developer
submitting the locations for approval to the USPS.
8. Speed Limit Law: Discussion will occur on House Bill 4012 and how
the proposed legislation may impact how speed limits are permitted to
be set within the City.
