VILLAGE OF WAUNAKEE BOARD OF REVIEW MEETING 500 West Main Street June 6, 2018 6:00 PM Meeting Minutes CALL TO ORDER The 2018 Village of Waunakee Board of Review was called to order by Village Clerk Julee Helt at 6:05 p.m. ROLL CALL Present: Al Dassow, Julee Helt, David Kennedy, Steve Miller, Brian Schmeiser, Tom Wilson Absent: Kevin Laffey Also Present: Dean Peters, Laurie Helt, Adam Bentley, Meg Vergeront, Jordan D. Taylor, Jim Fitzpatrick REPORTS Clerk Helt confirmed the required notices had been published and posted, the assessment roll was made available on May 14, 2018, a minimum of seven days before Board of Review could occur, and the Village had an ordinance for confidentiality of income and expense information provided to the assessor. She also reported that Tom Wilson and Steve Miller had attended mandatory Board of Review training as required by Wisconsin Statute on April 22, 2018. The completed assessment roll and sworn statements were presented to the members of the Board of Review for examination, correction of any errors, and addition of omitted properties and elimination of double-assessed properties. Dean Peters, Village Assessor, supplied his credentials and an overview of the year's assessments. He also reported Open Book had concluded and all necessary notices had been provided, any open book changes had been made to the assessment roll, all reports had been filed with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, and the Assessor's Affidavit had been signed. He reported the 2018 level of assessment was approximately 86%. Assessor Peters was sworn under oath. Motion by Al Dassow, second by David Kennedy, to appoint Tom Wilson as Chairperson. NEW BUSINESS 1 Objection and Hearing for Madison Environmental Resourcing, Inc., 800 Uniek Drive Attorney Jordan Taylor, on behalf of property owner James Fitzpatrick, filed an objection to the value of the property owned by Madison Environmental Resourcing, Inc., at 800 Uniek Drive. Mr. Fitzpatrick and Mr. Taylor were present and sworn under oath to testify before the Board of Review. The hearing to consider the objection was opened at 6:27 p.m. Mr. Taylor presented the property owner's objections to the value applied to the property by the assessor. Assessor Peters described the property, provided evidence as to the value he had applied to the property, and explained his reasons for not assigning exempt status to the property. The hearing to consider the objection was closed at 6:58 p.m. Motion by Steve Miller, second by David Kennedy, to sustain the assessor's land value of $389,000, improvement value of $807,000, for a total property value of $1,196,000. Motion Passed.
