CALL TO ORDER
Erin Moran called the meeting to order at 6:05 P.M.
ROLL CALL
Present: Erin Moran, Melanie Trainor-Burton, Katie Lowery, Natasha Lutes, Silvia Guerin, Deb Nies
Absent: Mike Moh, Jessica Pagel, Sean Reimer
Also Present: Todd Schmidt, Kylie West, Jeff Skoug, Gay Strandemo
MINUTES
1 Approve Minutes for May 14, 2020
Motion by Natasha Lutes, Second by Katie Lowery, to approve the minutes from the May 14,
2020 Create Waunakee Committee meeting.
Motion Passed. For: 6, Against: 0, Absent: 3
NEW BUSINESS
1 How Can We Harness Creativity During Difficult Societal Events
Discussion Only. No Action Taken. Ideas included:
Temporary Chalk paintings throughout city or in specified areas.
Solicit artistic pieces from the community (i.e. pictures of drawings, poetry,
writings, chalk creations, window paintings, drawings, positive messages, etc.)
RE: Current events and use for social media postings and create a book after.
Horse Parade on Main Street to signify how long people have been waiting for
equality.
Community Response Board with weekly changing prompts (i.e. Cindy Chang
example)
Incorporate positive messages RE current events into Chalk Walk Celebration
2 CWC Work Group Descriptions
Discussion only. No Action Taken.
3 Sub-Committee Project Updates
a) Chalk Walk (Jeff & Jessica) – Meeting 6/12 to discuss changes. Most likely just be art
portion this year, working with Chamber to incorporate business promotion and
participation.
b) Live From The Park (Jeff & Katie) – Later start this season (July 14 - August 18) and
looking for committee member help with event introductions at concerts. CW will
also plan to have a promo table at the events.
c) Culinary Promotion (Deb & Katie) – Letter sent out to gauge interest from local
restaurants in various events, will follow up next week if no responses received.
d) 150th Anniversary Celebration (Silvia, Todd, Jeff, Sean & Deb) – Letter was drafted
to be sent out to local groups who may participate in various activities and letter will
be sent out next week.
e) Cultural Awareness (Silvia & Natasha) – Working to coordinate 30 minute interview
sessions with local residents of various backgrounds on why Waunakee is Home to
them, also coordinating with Waunakee Neighborhood Connection to work together
on this idea and incorporate their efforts to combat racism in the community.
f) Art on Main (Kylie & Mel) – Artists were selected and all pieces were picked up the
week of June 1st. Virtual Kick-Off will be on July 2nd via ZOOM.
g) Innovation Center Collaborations (Mel, Erin, Natasha & Todd) – No update. Space
still unable to be utilized at this time.
h) Imagination Celebration (Jess & Sean) – No updates.
i) Open Mic Events (Gay & Sean) – Library is working to start some type of regular
open mic event with poetry/readings.
j) Committee Member Profiles (Erin, Todd & Kylie) – Email was sent to committee
members with prompts; Erin is waiting on responses/pictures from committee
members.
k) WRAP (Kylie & Gay) – No update. Waiting to secure a date at the Library before
moving forward with remaining planning.
4 Creative Directory Review
Discussion Only. No Action Taken. Follow-up on committee input will be had at a
later meeting.
5 Open Discussion on Other Committee Interests and Ideas
Discussion Only. No Action Taken.
