NEW BUSINESS
1 New Member Welcome
Committee members introduced themselves and welcomed Joel Lewis to the
committee. Discussion only. No action taken.
2 Sub-Committee Project Updates
a) Be the Change Wall (Todd & Joel) – Opinions on the wall from the community have
been mixed, looking into possibly turning it into a mural with DAMA (Dane Arts
Mural Arts) or other local artists, but want to continue making it a discussion piece,
possibly with chalkboard pieces still involved within mural. Going to do interview
with WISC3 on impact of wall.
b) Chalk Walk (Jeff & Jessica) – 30 groups signed up, Create Waunakee will promo the
event more – 5 businesses have committed to letting people create in front of their
businesses. Create Waunakee Committee members are judging the art for awards.
c) Live From The Park (Jeff & Katie) – No update. Cancelled for summer.
d) Culinary Promotion (Deb & Katie) – No update.
e) 150th Anniversary Celebration (Silvia, Todd, Jeff, Sean & Deb) – Community
partners met and discussed plans and ideas at the end of July and will continue to
meet monthly. Create Waunakee will help promote events and help coordinate
scheduling of events to ensure no duplications or overlaps.
Todd working with Univer-city – Looking to have UW Native Nations Working
Group / Nelson Institute establish appropriate strategy and honorable programming to
recognize and raise awareness of Native American culture and history in the
Waunakee area as part of the Village’s 150th anniversary.
f) Cultural Awareness (Silvia & Natasha) – Working on Waunakee is Home series, first
went very well. Working to line up guests through April, and working to involve
community kids in preparing videos. Also working with WNC on Building
Connections Series with the Library.
g) Art on Main (Kylie & Mel) – Auction will be online this year, working to have that
up and promoted by next week and auction will be live through the end of September.
Kylie and Mel to coordinate on plaque details.
h) Innovation Center Collaborations (Mel, Erin, Natasha & Todd) – On Hold, but have a
good group of community members ready and willing to help with this work group.
i) Imagination Celebration (Jess & Sean) – Todd working to gather old committee
members to begin arranging a work group for this to hopefully hold the event in 2021
during the 150th.
j) Open Mic Events (Gay & Sean) – Working to get more Entertainment Breaks
focusing on different types of art and creativity, next one is photography with Rona
Neri. Covid Conversations through library are going well, wants to work on offering
poetry and other short 10 minute slot options for community participation.
