CALL TO ORDER
Erin Moran called the meeting to order at 6:04 P.M.
ROLL CALL
Present: Erin Moran, Melanie Trainor-Burton, Katie Lowery, Jessica Pagel, Joel Lewis,
Natasha Lutes, Silvia Guerin
Absent: Deb Nies, Sean Reimer
Also Present: Todd Schmidt, Kylie West, Jeff Skoug, Gay Strandemo

MINUTES
1 Approve Minutes for August 13, 2020
Motion by Katie Lowery, Second by Natasha Lutes, to approve the minutes from the
August 13, 2020 Create Waunakee Committee meeting.
Motion Passed. For: 7, Against: 0, Absent: 2
PRESENTATIONS
1 Presentation on Historical/Creative Geocache Project
Kylie West gave presentation on recently hidden geocaches in and around the Village.
Discussion only, no action taken.
NEW BUSINESS
1 Sub-Committee Project Updates
a) Be the Change Wall (Todd & Joel) – Wall Project has been completed. Looking at
working with the Sculpture Committee on a project to recreate the entire plaza area in
front of the old library, including designing a community area, mural, etc.
incorporating the community, equality, diversity, and the Village’s 150th anniversary.
b) Chalk Walk (Jeff & Jessica) – Chalk the Kee had 59 different pieces created, event
went very well and new event style seems to have been very much enjoyed by the
community. Will consider format options for next years event pending the pandemic
at the time.
c) Live from The Park (Jeff & Katie) – No update. Cancelled for summer.
d) Culinary Promotion (Katie & Joel) – Met with sub-committee regarding live cooking
events, and scheduled two live cooking events for Facebook page with Eugenia
Mazza (Sunday Dinner Cook Along) and Greg Tardif (Tailgate Treats), looking to
get others involved including chefs from Waunakee. Ideas include someone from
Wisconsin Cutlery to offer Knife cutting classes (This person is a Waunakee
Resident).
e) 150th Anniversary Celebration (Silvia, Todd, Jeff, Sean & Deb) – Community
partners have met and discussed plans and ideas and will continue to meet monthly.
A working list of ideas/contacts has been created for partners to update regularly.
Create Waunakee will help promote events and help coordinate scheduling of events
to ensure no duplications or overlaps.
f) Cultural Awareness (Silvia & Natasha) – Waunakee is Home series is going very
well, a lot of volunteers wanting to help. Working to coordinate many more
presentations from community members and engaging the community in helping with
the events and videos.
g) Art on Main (Kylie & Mel) – Auction is live through the end of September, working
on mounting poles with Innovation Center staff and working to make a video on each
piece specifically showing details, weight, etc.
h) Innovation Center Collaborations (Mel, Erin, Natasha & Todd) – On Hold, but have a
good group of community members ready and willing to help with this work group.
i) Imagination Celebration (Jess & Sean) – Planning for this event is on hold pending
mass gathering guidelines in the future.
j) Open Mic Events (Gay & Sean) – Working to get more Entertainment Breaks
focusing on different types of art and creativity. Covid Conversations through library
are going well, wants to work on offering poetry and other short 10 minute slot
options for community participation.
k) Committee Member Profiles (Erin, Todd & Kylie) – Erin waiting on a couple more
bios from committee members and they will get posted to social media.
l) WRAP (Kylie & Gay) – New dates offering both Virtual and in-person options have
been scheduled for May 2021 at the Waunakee Public Library. WRAP program is
losing UW funding, so future of program is uncertain, but planning to hold some type
of Art show/exhibit in 2021 regardless.
2 Discussion on Sub-Committee Work Group Realignment
Discussion only. No Action taken. Will be addressed at future meeting.
3 Open Discussion on Other Committee Interests and Ideas
Some type of scavenger hunt or contest to get people into community (rock
placement, bingo) chamber bucks as prizes.
