City of West Allis Meeting Minutes Historical Commission Wednesday, March 11, 2020 4:05 PM Engineering/Development Conference Room 210 7525 W. Greenfield Ave. REGULAR MEETING A. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Mr Gracyalny, Vice Chair/Treasurer at 4:05 p.m. B. ROLL CALL Present 5- Sarah Fonaas, Devan Gracyalny, Barbara Hart, Ray Nazer, and John Noll Excused 2- Mayor Dan Devine, and Patricia Wolfe Others Attending Shaun Mueller, Community & Economic Development Coordinator C. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. 20-0175 February 12, 2020 (draft) Minutes Attachments: 2-12-20 (draft) Minutes A motion was made by Hart, seconded by Nazer, that the minutes of the February 12, 2020 meeting be approved. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 5- Fonaas, Gracyalny, Hart, Nazer, and Noll No: 0 D. NEW AND PREVIOUS MATTERS 2. 20-0176 Consideration relative to the Financial Report for the period ending 3/10/20 presented by Devan Gracyalny, Vice Chair/Treasurer Mr. Gracyalny reported that as March 10, 2020, the balance on hand is $5,968.23. A motion was made by Hart, seconded by Noll, that the Financial Report be approved. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 5- Fonaas, Gracyalny, Hart, Nazer, and Noll No: 0 E. MATTERS FOR DISCUSSION/ACTION 3. 20-0177 Report from the West Allis Historical Society The artifacts came back from the Grohmann museum display. Wonderful women of West Allis is the theme for 2020. It will be publicized through the newsletter and presentation(s). Log Schoolhouse Mr. Gracyalny reported that they are working on the lights that light up the Historical Society sign. B. Seneca Station A question arose as to readjusting the timer for the lights. Not sure if it is needed. Mr. Noll also noted that the glass in the door at the Seneca Station looked foggy. C. Social Media Updates Mr. Gracyalny mentioned that there is a researcher writing a book on the Milwaukee side of the State Fair Park Neighborhood. Mr. Gracyalny is going to email him a few photos. On a further note, Mr. Gracyalny inquired on what the City policy was in regards to the Corona Virus. 5. 20-0179 Discussion regarding May Historic Preservation Month activity. An event regarding the placement of May Eliza Wright Sewall Plaque at S. 99 - S. 100 St. and W. Greenfield Ave. Mr. Gracyalny reported the need to determine the location where the plaque should be placed and would like to meet a staff member at the site to help make this determination. Mr. Gracyalny will coordinate invitations with Caitlyn White & Jenny Kosek from the Communications Department. They will need to schedule the event around the Mayor's schedule. Coordination with also involve Mike Rushmer, Public Works, and the Engineering and Planning departments as well. It was decided by the committee that the event till take place on Wednesday, May 27th, with the time to be determined based on the Mayor's schedule. Besides the Sewall plaque, it was suggested that this site also be designated as a Local Historic Landmark and a plaque be displayed for that as well. Shaun Mueller stated that this should be added to the next Historical Agenda and that the Local Historic Landmark application form be designed to be a fillable PDF. F. ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Ms. Hart, seconded by Ms. Fonaas to adjourn the meeting at 4:35 p.m. The motion carried unanimously.
