City of West Allis Meeting Minutes Historical Commission Wednesday, November 10, 2021 4:05 PM City Hall, Art Gallery 7525 W. Greenfield Ave. REGULAR MEETING A. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Mr. Gracyalny at 4:05 p.m. B. ROLL CALL Present 4- Barbara Hart, Devan Gracyalny, Ray Nazer, and John Noll Excused 2- Mayor Dan Devine, and Patricia Wolfe Others Attending Shaun Mueller, Development Project Manager; Alderperson Roadt C. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. 21-0567 October 13, 2021 (draft) Minutes Attachments: 10-13-21 (draft) Minutes Mr. Gracyalny requested that the minutes of the October 13, 2021 meeting, agenda item #5, be amended as follows: "Mr. Gracyalny informed the committee that it will take 11 weeks, once the doors are ordered". A motion was made by Ms. Hart, seconded by Mr. Nazer, that the amended minutes of the October 13, 2021 be Approved. The motion carried. by the following vote: Aye: 4- Hart, Gracyalny, Nazer, and Noll No: 0 D. NEW AND PREVIOUS MATTERS 2. 21-0568 Consideration relative to the Financial Report for the period ending 11/9/21 presented by Devan Gracyalny, Vice Chair/Treasurer Mr. Gracyalny reported that the current balance on hand is $6,268.79. The balance is unchanged from last month's meeting. A question arose as to packaged soup being placed and sold at the Customer Service Center (CSC) to enable the public to see the soup and purchase, if so desired. Mr. Mueller will speak with Mayor Devine regarding this request. A motion was made by Ms. Hart, seconded by Mr. Nazer that the Financial Report be Approved. MATTERS FOR DISCUSSION/ACTION 3. 21-0569 Report from the West Allis Historical Society It was reported by Ms. Hart that the furnace is not working in the Log Schoolhouse. Public Works will be contacted to fix the problem. 4. 21-0570 Status Reports - Historical Commission Projects and Activities A. Log Schoolhouse Mr. Mueller reported that the Log Schoolhouse still needs to be winterized. Public Works will be contacted. B. Seneca Station It was discussed if Public Works will be adding Christmas lights to the Seneca Station this year? Mr. Mueller will contact the appropriate individuals regarding this matter. C. Social Media Updates Nothing to Report 5. 21-0571 Discussion regarding replacing the Allis Chalmers Historic Information Sign which is located on the northeast corner of S. 70 St. and W. Greenfield Ave. Discussion ensued regarding the existing sign which is in poor condition and needs to be removed. A Public Works order will be generated to have the current sign removed. Some examples of good signage are the Railroad Park located at S. 82 St. and W. National Ave., as well as the Seneca Station located at the intersection of S. 76th St. and W. National Ave. Discussion also commenced about the possibility of locating the sign within the West Allis Towne Centre Plaza. 6. 21-0572 Discussion regarding the Honey Creek Cemetery Mr. Gracyalny requested that the new cemetery plan be placed onto the Historical Society Website. Mr. Mueller requested that the information be given to Jenny Kosek so she can place it on the website. Mr. Gracyalny is in the process of getting an estimate from Mike Rushmer to place crushed red granite down to delineate the walkways within the cemetery. Once a budget is created, the plan can be put into action. Ald. Roadt inquired if Lois Pocian could be name Sexton of the cemetery, or could a new position be created? Mr. Mueller will work with Kail Decker, City Attorney to see if this new position could be created. Mr. Gracyalny suggested that the State Historical Society be contacted on best practices. City of West Allis Page 2 Printed on 12/15/2021 Historical Commission Meeting Minutes November 10, 2021 7. 21-0573 Discussion regarding the design and contracting for the new doors on the Historical Society building Mr. Gracyalny reported that final approval was received to order the new front and back doors at the Historical Society building. F. ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Ms. Hart, seconded by Mr. Noll to adjourn the meeting at 4:42 p.m. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 4- Hart, Gracyalny, Nazer, and Noll No: 0 All meetings of the {bdName} are public meetings.
