OPENING OF THE MEETING
1. The meeting was called to order at 7:36pm.
2. Statement of Adequate Notice

ROLL CALL
1. Present: Lauren Letizia, Councilwoman Erin Collins, Lisa Marinkovic, Alena Bohacova,
Michael Malatino, Grace Pesanti, and Camille Sasena.
2. Not Present: Maureen Murray, and G. Dietrich, consultant, not requested for participation
at this meeting based on agenda items.
MINUTES
1. Approval of August 2018 minutes - Vote of Necessity. Motion to approve the minutes by
L. Marinkovic and 2nd by L. Letizia. All in favor.
2. Approval of September 2018 minutes – Vote of Necessity. Motion to approve the
minutes by L. Letizia and 2nd by M. Malatino. All in favor.
3. Approval of October 2018 minutes – Vote of Necessity. Motion to approve the minutes
by A. Bohacova and 2nd by L. Marinkovic. All in favor.
4. Approval of November 2018 minutes – Vote of Necessity. Motion to approve the
minutes by A. Bohacova and 2nd by M. Malatino. All in favor.
PROCEDURAL
1. Membership - Oaths, Reclassification & Openings - L. Letizia/E. Collins
a. Oath: Lisa Marinkovic, Member Class C (to replace M. Murray)
b. Oath: Camille Sasena, Member Class A (to replace D. Hohmann)
c. OPEN: Member Class C (A or B) (to replace J. Whelan, resigned Nov. 2018)

2. Board Nomination
a. Chair – L. Letizia nominated by A. Bohacova and 2nd by L. Marinkovic. All in
favor.

Marinkovic. All in favor.
c. Secretary – A. Bohacova nominated by L. Letizia and 2nd by M. Malatino. All in
favor.
3. 2018 Review / Report to Planning Board - L. Letizia reported as follows:
a. The commission had a great year and there was a lot of participation. The
Commission was successful with the train station nomination and we are waiting
to hear back from National Register.
b. The Commission had almost 100% compliance in terms of our education and we
are hoping to hit 100% compliance in 2019 as well.

4. Digital Storage. L. Letizia asked E. Collins to find out about digital storage for the
Commission material.
CORRESPONDENCE
No new correspondence for this period.
STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS and VOUCHERS
1. YTD Spending Report - L. Letizia. The current remaining budget is at $293.55. This
includes the deduction of the money the Commission set aside for a plaque. It should be
noted that the price of the bronze went up by 4%.
2. Requisition for Train Station Plaque L. Letizia
a. 965.00 from HPC budget
b. 450.00 from Borough Historian budget
3. Currently, the Commission has $1,000 until March, 2019 when the final budget is
approved.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Train Station Nomination Status Update - L. Letizia. The Commission is waiting to
hear from the Keeper of the National Register. G. Dietrich has been trying to reach Bob
Craig, the State reviewer and he has not gotten back to the Commission yet. He might
have retired. He would be our spoke-person in DC and could help the Commission with
coordination.
2. 84 Washington Ave - E. Collins stated that the Council was very positive and stated that
it could be a worthwhile endeavor. The Commission is waiting to obtain an estimate on
the cost of repairs to make the property code compliant.
3. Certified Local Government - M. Malatino provided the report on proposed changes to
the ordinance. Jonathan Kinney from the State Department of Historic Preservation
made some recommendations and the Commission had an open discussion on same. M.
Malatino will further discuss with J. Kinney.
a. Camile Sasena suggested looking into Neighborhood Conservation District.
4. Training Status & Opportunities - L. Letizia
a. Preservation Practice for Historic Preservation Commissions and Planners in
Morristown on March 9, 2019.
NEW BUSINESS
1. 2019 Projects & Goals
a. Making other walking tours. Extending it along Broadway where the Rolling Pin
is located. This section is the oldest section of the town. Very nice eclectic
mixture of buildings. The Commission discussed other districts, which the
Master Plan has outlined by Caroline, Prospect and Bogart and another section by
Terrace Drive going towards River Vale.
2. Celebrate Westwood
a. A week from June 2, 2019 through June 8, 2019. June 2 will be the Westwood
Pride Day and June 8 will be another day where participation of all commissions
will be appreciated.

3. Discussion of the recognition program of acknowledging members of the community
who are actively participating in historic preservation of the Borough.
4. Jefferson Ave Historic Brochure – The Commission could leave it at the community
center when it is done to promote Historic awareness and culture in Westwood.
5. Endangered Buildings – Commission members should review the list of the properties
and see if anything stands out either for recognition or for possible designation.
