CALL TO ORDER
Announce the presence of a Quorum.
The meeting was called to order by PAAB Secretary Ehrlich. The following members were present: Karen
Nitz, Karen Newman, Cindy Ingram, Steve Shank, and Janet Smith. Absent were Emily Gilchrist and Roger
Nitz.
PAAB Coordinator Carole Ehrlich was also in attendance.
CITIZENS COMMENTS ON NON -AGENDA ITEMS
Residents may address the Board regarding an item that is not listed on the Agenda Residents mustfill out a non -
agenda form prior to the meeting in order to speak The Board requests that comments be limited to three ( 3) minutes.
In addition, the Board is not allowed to converse, deliberate, or take action on any matter presented during citizen
participation.
No citizens were present to address the board.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
All matters listed under the Consent Agenda are considered to be routine by the Board and will be enacted by one
motion. There will not be separate discussion of these items. Ifdiscussion is desired that item will be removed
from the Consent Agenda and will be considered separately.
A. Discussion regarding the artist' s proposed designs for the Historic Downtown
Mural to be located at South Ballard and Oak Street.

Presentations
PAC Ehrlich introduced Erika Mcllnay, Art Director at the Collin County Community College,
Wylie Campus. She addressed the panel reporting that the three artists presenting their designs for
the mural tonight worked very hard on their designs and presentations. She stated that Marina
Godkin was unable to attend due to a conflict with her work schedule.
Shea Ameen, a graduate from Wylie East High School and majoring in Art Therapy presented her
design. " Wide Awake Wylie" was the theme and presented an eye with a map depicting a heart
where Wylie would be. The background was a variety of bright colors with clouds attached to a
sky background.
Delilah Mireles lived in Wylie as a young child. Her theme was music and " Feeling the Groove".
She stated that Wylie is a lively city with lots of concerts to bring people together. The design was
a light background with musical notes and a large guitar and drums depicting the musical events
found in the City.
Marina Godkin who was unable to attend is also an art major. She had a passion for art since
childhood. Her design had a rocket with the word " Wylie 1887" which is the year of the City' s
incorporation. The background was continuous circles of bold colors with the rocket flying
through.
REGULAR AGENDA
1. Consider and act upon a recommendation to the Public Arts Advisory Board for the
selection of the artist to be considered for Wylie' s Historic Downtown Mural Art

Panel Discussion
The panel discussed at length the three designs stating that all three had very unique designs. Board
members like the distinct colors and design of the eye with the heart and felt that visitors and
citizens alike would understand the theme in connection with the City.
Panel members also liked the idea of bringing music into the design by Delilah Mireles. They
asked if the recommendation could be postponed to see if the two designs could be re -designed
into one mural. Ehrlich stated that she would check with Erika Mcllnay to see if the artist was

Panel Action
A motion was made by Steve Shank, seconded by board member Karen Newman to adjourn the meeting at
7: 15 p.m. A vote was taken and the motion carried 5- 0 with board member Emily Gilchrist and Roger Nitz
absent.

PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION ITEMS
❑ Presentation of the Theme for this project (C. Ehrlich, Public Art Coordinator)
Executive Summary
This project is a collaboration between the City of Wylie Public Art and the Collin County Community College Art
Department. The students submitting proposals are majoring in art. The theme for this project is to create a fun
mural that depicts Wylie in some way and would be a great photo shoot for visitors to the City.
A scholarship from the art fund will go to the winning student as well as to the department to set up a scholarship
to be used for new students seeking the field of art.
