Yukon Park Board Minutes Regular Meeting Wednesday , January 19, 2022 6:00 P.M. Huckaba Building 532 W. Main The City of Yukon Park Board met for their regular meeting on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, 6:00 p.m. at the Huckaba Bldg., 532 W. Main, Yukon, OK. Roll Call : (Present) Joe Edwards, Ward 1 Joe Baumann, Ward 4 Stephen Nelson, Ward 2 Cathy Wright – Ward 3 Absent: Jason Hammett- At Large Others Present: Chris Lucas, Andrea Griffin Item 1: Approval of the minutes Wednesday ,December 15, 2021 Joe Baumann moved to approve the minutes from December 15, 2021. Cathy Wright seconded the motion. The vote: Ayes: Baumann, Wright, Nelson, and Edwards Nays: None The Vote 4-0 Motion Carried Item 2: Parks and Recreation Department Reports and Project Updates Chris Lucas reported attendance is up, even with Covid, due to the continuous sanitizing of facility surfaces as well as the program equipment. Home School PE has 36 kids participating and there were 35 kids participating in the Free Throw Contest who will advance and compete against the City of Mustang Free Throw Contest winners during the Yukon vs. Mustang High School basketball game. February you can register in person for the indoor soccer league. Jackie Cooper Gym has a new adult dodge ball program. The front door has been fixed, goal posts new wiring enables them with the turn of a key to be raised. The men’s locker room has had a portion of the lockers removed to utilize that space for storage. Yukon Community Center has an upcoming Homemade Slime class and their Parent’s Night Out has 13 signed up so far. A video from the Diaper Dash was posted to City’s social media accounts. The weight room will have new mirrors installed; weather stripping has been installed around doors. The camp room will have more possibilities for rental with projector and screen installed. Dale Robertson Center has its regular programing, little slower in January. Talent Show for 55+ will be February 17th. DRC recently replaced a refrigerator with a CENA Grant and currently redesigning their shared game room and storage area for gaming and not storage. Upcoming Daddy Daughter Dance on January 29 at the DRC, currently has 100 more signed up than last year at this time. P. O. Overall numbers are up in are facilities. Once the weather is stable, we will be evaluating and doing a dry run for both Kimbell Bay(hasn’t been open in 2 years) and City Splash. That includes filling with water, running pumps, checking for leaks, etc. Pool staff recruitment is in the works to visit with high school and college students, as well as placing ad on social media and newspapers. Spring will also bring Youth Baseball’s first full season, anticipating 350-500 kids to participate, which will also show impact on our community and a chance to educate what else Parks & Recreation has to offer the families. City survey results in and happy to report utilizing that data that Park & Recreation was on the public’s mind, excited to move forward. Item 3: Open Discussion Joe Edwards stated the Covid bug has been around for a couple of years, happy to hear things are getting back to somewhat normal with staff continuing sanitizing protocol with their facilities, equipment and having several sanitizing stations within, offering a place where families feel comfortable coming back to. Christmas lights with the additional selfie stations were a hit, heavier traffic, the more notoriety may have to do traffic studies or place displays throughout Yukon. Stephen Nelson stated he thought stop signs helped at Parklawn II neighborhood South entrance off of 10th street. He and his family enjoyed Christmas lights but looking forward to Spring. It’s been good to meet and visit with Chris, has liked changes to the Park Board Agenda and happy department is fully staffed. Joe Baumann liked Christmas lights, looking forward to Chocolate Festival, February 5th, looking forward to a better year in 2022. Cathy Wright happy to meet Chris, like the changes made, may be a good idea for Christmas displays to spread all around town, happy we’ll be fully staffed.
