Pathways Committee Meeting Minutes
November 10, 2014
6:00pm
Meeting attendees:
Phil Howard Art Small
Evan Williams Matt Dickey
Bike Challenge
Phil noted quite a successful bike challenge between Dow Ag and Zionsville…the team with the most
total miles in 6 weeks wins. He said the event had 85 total participants who either chose the 150 mile or
400 mile distance. The average Zionsville resident rode 310 miles to win. The average AgroCyclist
rode 296 miles for an aggregate total of over 23,000 miles!! Matt gave the trophy (engraved brick) to
Phil
Eagle Creek Pathways
We briefly addressed the potential to continue south along Eagle Creek past Stark Park all the way to
79th Street. Definitely long term. We’re still addressing with Canterbury Stables to construct the path
along Eagle Creek north of Starkey Park
Quail Run
Phil & Matt noted some connections from the new area of Quail Run to the existing Rail Trail.
Elm Street Green Area
Phil noted a little progress in developing a pathway between Lion’s Park and Elm Street Green along the
creek.
Midland Trace Trail
Matt noted that while the Midland Trace used to be (and started out in the 1990’s as) a Hamilton County
Park Department effort, now that Westfield’s corporate limit extends all the way to the Boone County
line, it would be highly unlikely Hamilton County Parks would continue to be involved.
When Matt asked the Midland westbound timing question at the Grand Park Open House/Tour for park
and recreation and design professionals, that question went to and the answer came back from the Mayor
of Westfield. He said it was still a priority, but they have no timetable set for it.
Matt noted that a few parcels have been purchased along this trail by Zionsville Parks. We are still
keeping an eye out along this trail for its eventuality.
Heritage Trail North
Phil noted progress on picking up land and developing our Rail Trail continued north to 400S.
Pathway Priority List
We’re still waiting to finish addressing the priorities of our pathway list…possibly start addressing this
again with our new committee next year.
