Zionsville Pathways Committee Meeting

Pathways Committee Meeting Minutes December 8, 2014 6:00pm Meeting attendees: Phil Howard Art Small Paul Watson Geoff Brown Evan Williams Matt Dickey Tom Schuler Jeff Edmundson Bill Spitz Lisa Burr Walk/Bike to School Jeff is still pursuing this activity for the spring semester. Phil noted that our last Bike-to-School day involved about 1,300 people. Pathway Updates From Parks Tom noted that the Town Council budgeted for the pathways along Bloor and Royal Run areas. Bicycle Friendly Application Phil noted we’re planning our 3rd submission for achieving Bicycle Friendly status on February 11th. Helping with this submission, Phil noted that Dow Agro is now bronze-level certified bicycle friendly for a company. We are also pursuing a Lead Certified Instructor for Bike-Friendly achievement. Thirdly, Phil noted that Zionsville is pursuing a Complete-Streets policy to be approved by our Town Council. A draft of such was passed out for comments. Walk Friendly Status Art is heading up our effort for this and is looking for members to help him. We are targeting a 2nd submission in May, 2015. Art noted shoring up is needed in our submission in our walk-safety areas. Paul asked if we should pursue more crosswalk designated areas…like near Bub’s Burgers. Paul listed a few potential such areas and sent those to Art and Lance. Pathway Priority List We’re still waiting to finish addressing the priorities of our pathway list…possibly start addressing this again with our new committee next year. Pathway Grants Phil noted that any potential grants would probably come from Town departments, like Streets & Parks. Lisa noted a potential grant that could be pursued. Indiana Bike Summit Lisa noted a March 19/20th summit targeting businesses to encourage employee ridership. Walkability Lisa also noted a seminar-type event in Noblesville on January 7th that addresses pathways and biking for towns. Next Meetings - The next meeting: January 19th at 6pm.
