Zionsville Pathways Committee Meeting Minutes Tuesday, October 3, 2017 6pm - New Town Hall - CR205 In attendance: Art Small, Paul Watson, Jeff Edmundson, Evan Williams, Geoff Ruffer, Austin Hall, Rick Hall, Larry Boley, Faye Snodgress, and two Zionsville High School Students. Meeting called to order by Evan at 6:00 PM Motion to approve Minutes of the August 15, 2017 Meeting: Art moved, seconded by Jeff. Unanimously approved. Old Business - Updates: 1. Bike Friendly Status –The application is due in either May or June 2018. We have a bronze award and with the improvements that have been made, we might qualify for a higher designation. Art and Jeff will work on preparing the submission in the spring. Some of the information from the Walk Friendly application can be used for this application. 2. Walk Friendly Status – The application is due by Dec. 15, 2017. Jeff provided committee members with a blank application, along with the last submission. There was a discussion about whether we can become Walk Friendly community without having all ‘complete streets.’ The addition of Perry Township will need to be added to the document. Jeff and Art also are working on this application. 3. Road Crossing Markings - The Ford Road and Starkey Road crosswalk was discussed. The proposed modifications to the intersection to improve safety and navigability may be reviewed by the Safety Board during a future meeting. Paul will follow up with them. New Business 1. The Longer Term Pathways were discussed: • C9 – would create a loop pathway. It should remain as a long-term pathway as it will require a Ford Road pathway. • C10 – Already in the planning stage – Move it to Priority Pathway A • C11 – In the next update, the section from Elm Street to Templeton along the creek will need to be added to the map. It will remain as a long-term pathway. • C12 – It should remain as a long-term pathway. Evan will get clarification about the location of this path. • C13 - The potential issues posed by the utility easement were discussed. It should remain as a long-term pathway. • C14 - It should remain as a long-term pathway. • C15 This is the Rail Trail north of 32 that will eventually connect to Westfield. Evan will gather more information and bring it back to the committee. 2. Potential Top 3 Pathways - The Committee selected A1, A12, and A15 as priorities. The advocates for each of the three pathways are as follows: A1 – Tim A12 - Evan A15 - Art 3. Larry Boley shared information about his recent hike along the Appalachian Trail and invited anyone interested in learning more about how to navigate the Trail to talk with him. Jeff shared that Larry’s planet proposal along the rail trail didn’t garner any initial interest at Parks Dept. meeting The meeting was adjourned at 7:09.
